Audi will soon be introducing a new 4-door concept version of the A3 model. The notchback sedan will have 4 seats and a sporty, attractive design. It will feature a single-frame grille and new LED headlights that combine to give the front of this concept car a mean stare. Its’ low flowing roof and sporty deminsions (14.57 feet long, 6.04 feet wide, and 4.56 feet tall) make it look more like a coupe.

As far as performance goes, the A3 concept will have a 5-cylinder 300 kW, 408 horsepower turbocharged engine with quattro drive, delivering power evenly to all four wheels through a 7-speed S tronic transmission. In short, it’s a compact 4-seat powerhouse that can beat most cars off the line – that is if it doesn’t scare them away with its’ aggressive looks first.

The people at Land Rover have been working hard leading up to the 2011 Geneva Auto Show in preparation for the unveiling of several exciting new models which will fit in all over their already impressive line-up.

The biggest news will be Land Rover’s new Range Rover_e, an electric plug-in hybrid prototype which can travel up to 20 miles on batteries alone. After that, the 3.0 liter TDV6 diesel engine has an amazing range of 671 miles per tank. It even has a top speed of 120 miles per hour while emitting only 89 grams of CO2 per kilometer, just 2 grams more than the puny Smart fortwo Cabrio.

Besides the new electric hybrid, Land Rover plans to also show off their new Discovery 4 Limited Edition with Black and White themes and the Range Rover Autobiography Ultimate Edition, the company’s most expensive and most luxurious Range Rover ever.

Perhaps the most anticipated new model will be the Evoque. Land Rover will unveil the new model in both the coupe and 5-door variants, complete with all of their customizable options. The company stated that they want owners of the Evoque to be able to make their own unique statement with plenty of personalized options available.

BMW, like most automakers these days, is shifting more attention towards efficiency. But, while fuel economy is now a larger part of BMW’s focus, they still are very concerned with performance as well. BMW recently announced the return of the four-cylinder powertrain, something which has been out of their lineup since 1997. This follows a similar announcement by Porsche, who recently unveiled plans to release a turbocharged flat-four for the first time since 1995.

BMW’s new inline 4-cylinder will displace 2 liters, produce 240 horsepower, and 260 pounds-feet of torque. It will combine twin-scroll turbocharging, direct injection, and BMW’s Valvetronic proprietary variable valve timing system.

While it is still unclear which models will be equipped with the 4-cylinder, one can suspect likely candidates include the 1 Series, 3 Series, and X1 once it launches in the United States. BM’s engine will likely arrive in select models later this year.

In a related story, BMW is also working to make your car key more functional through advanced wireless technology. Technology called NFC, short for Near Field Communications, is planned to be included in next generation Android phones and the iPhone 5. BMW, however, is ahead of the curve. They plan to utilize NFC technology in the next generation ConnectedDrive to expand the functions of car keys.

Soon, BMW hopes, you will be opening gates, viewing your vehicles’ details, unlocking hotel room doors, purchasing tickets, booking reservations, and making payments all with the help of your advanced car key. You can watch a video about the technology below.

The Boxter may be fitted with Porsche's future 4 cylinder turbo engine.

The new boxer engine will displace 2.5 liters and produce up to 360 horsepower – a step up from the current Boxster engine, which produces between 255 and 320 horsepower depending on the trim. The Boxster, Cayman, and possibly even future 911 models (although Durheimer told Autocar they plan on keeping the flat six in 911s) may end up being equipped with the engine. More exciting, though, is the possibility of this engine being used in a new small Porsche roadster, which could fit in just under the Boxster price range. The auto world has been awaiting the introduction of said roadster, which shares many parts with the VW Bluesport Concept as well as a sister model from Audi. The engine, however, will most likely be Porsche’s own, and could very well be this new turbocharged four cylinder.

The technology we’ll be finding in our new cars over the next few years will undoubtedly provide lots of excitement, especially if that new car is an Audi. Speaking at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2011), Audi Chairman Rupert Stadler shared his visions of 3D graphic displays and a more connected, more mobile car of the future with a packed crowd. The future of driving will be a more entertaining and engaging experience that will also help keep the driver attentive on the road. Audi calls it the driver’s infotainment experience.

One of the most intriguing next-gen features that Audi has been developing in partnership with Elektrobit Automotive and NVIDIA is a crystal-clear and vivid 3D heads-up display (HUD) which superimposes turn-by-turn arrows on upcoming streets. In addition, the HUDs will display all of the vehicle’s vitals and gauges. “We found that if things are presented more realistically, they require less driver attention and limit driver distraction,” Stadler announced.

According to NVIDIA’s founder and CEO Jenson Huang, who was also on hand at the CES, Tegra 2 (the system that currently powers the Audi A8′s MMI) is already powerful enough to create “virtual cockpits”, cockpits with fully digital displays and instruments.

“We can simulate any material,” Huang told the crowd. “We can simulate metal. We can simulate aluminum or wood. But in this particular one (he points to a projected image) we’re simulating glass. And you can notice all the various reflections, refractions, shadows and lighting.”

Stadler closed out the presentation with a prediction that seems more and more realistic as every day passes. “Ultimately we see a world where the car is fully connected to the world of the internet, to other cars, as well as to traffic and other data streams. The car of the future is part of the mobile world, in every sense of that word.”

VW announced last week on their blog that they are officially going to sell the Golf R in the United States. The Golf R will have 50 more horsepower than the 2.0 L TSI. Its’ turbocharged 2.0 liter inline-four, mated with a manual 6-speed transmission, will get you from 0 to 60 in faster than ever. This is also thanks in part to the 4th generation Haldex 4MOTION All-Wheel-Drive system. All of this power exits the car through 2, centered rear exhaust pipes. Of course, it will get you from 60 back to 0 faster than any previous Golf models, as well. Volkswagen increased the rotor diameter on the new Golf R to improve braking distance. An upgraded sport tuned suspension makes the Golf R handle like a dream.

Available in 2 or 4-door models, the Golf R will be fitted with a number of model-specific parts. On the outside there will be, of course, the R badge and body kit as well as special 18 inch alloy wheels. On the inside drivers will be pleased with the custom R steering wheel, shift nob, door sills, and signature upholstery. The Golf R will also come with leather seating surfaces and dual-zone Climatronic air conditioning standard.

As thrilling as it is to drive a 2010 WRX STI, the engineers at Subaru must be the kind of guys that ride those insane high G force roller coasters over and over, because for 2011 they’ve fine-tuned the WRX STI to have even better grip, tighter steering, improved aerodynamics, and less body roll and understeer. The new 2011 Subaru WRX STI is, well, flat out fun.

For starters, the new STI has an overhauled suspension, with 16 percent stiffer springs compared to the 2010 STI Special Edition, and pillow-ball bushings in place of what used to be hard rubber pieces, making it easier to turn at a constant steering angle than with previous year models and reducing understeer as well. In the back the rear springs are 29 percent firmer than the ’10 STI SE. In order to reduce body roll the front and rear anti-roll bars were each given a little more thickness. On the test track these changes to the suspension are dramatically noticeable.

Under the hood the 2011 WRX STI remains the same, with a 305-hp turbocharged flat four tied to a 6 speed manual transmission. Drivers can fine-tune the throttle response with SI-Drive, and the advanced All-Wheel-Drive system’s multiple modes allows the driver to choose a center-differential locking level manually (or, of course, the car can do it by itself as well).

The 2011 STI also comes in a 4-door sedan as well as the 5-door hatchback body style. Both have some new exterior styling, with a more aggressive front end and a blacked out grille. On the inside the stereo sees an upgrade from last year’s model, with standard Bluetooth, auxiliary, and iPod/USB connectivity. Limited Models, available only in the sedan, have leather seats, a sunroof, foglight, and lightweight BBS Wheels.

HERNDON, Va., November 16, 2010 – For the first time, Volkswagen of America, Inc. will unveil its all-new 2012 Eos hardtop convertible, at the Los Angeles Auto Show, with market  introduction in early spring of 2011. Featuring an updated design with numerous new features, the 2012 Eos is the perfect complement of style and performance. A convertible that boasts  the versatility of a sophisticated four-season vehicle the Eos is a fun-to-drive, fully featured, premium convertible. The German engineered Eos is the only hardtop convertible with a built-in sunroof.

Exterior

Clearly structured and horizontally contoured, the freshened appearance of the new Eos, available in new exterior color options, follows the code of the Volkswagen design DNA. Extending  now between the new headlights is a grille consisting of three shiny black louvers, each trimmed with a narrow chrome strip. With sporty handling and independent suspension, from  behind, the Eos stands out through its reworked, twopart LED rear lights with a fiber optic technology system and redesigned rear bumper with diffuser.

Interior

The refined interior, available in several color options, showcases new trim on the instrument panel and doors with standard “Matte Chrome” detailing, as well as chromeframed window  buttons and light switches. On higher trim lines, genuine walnut wood adds elegance to the instrument and door panels, and is accompanied by supple “Vienna” leather seating. All Eos are equipped with leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel and shift knob.

Engine and Transmission

Providing a dynamic driving experience, the 2012 Eos features the powerful and efficient German engineering that drivers have come to expect from Volkswagen. The Eos utilizes the acclaimed 2.0-liter 16-valve DOHC turbocharged and intercooled four-cylinder gasoline engine. The direct injected power plant produces 200 horsepower and develops 207 lbs-ft. of torque  while delivering a top highway fuel economy of 31 mpg highway.

For 2012, the Eos features the automatic Direct-Shift Gearbox® transmission as standard. This technologically advanced sixspeed transmission incorporates an automatic dual-clutch system that instantly engages and disengages gears without the need for a clutch pedal. With a special computer controlling the process, one clutch is engaged on the next gear needed while the clutch from the previous gear is released. The results are crisp, quick shifts without the loss of power that is experienced with a traditional manual gearbox.

High-Tech Features

In technical terms, numerous contemporary details set the 2012 Eos apart. With a robust five-part roof unit, the fully opening hardtop converts the Eos from coupe to convertible (and vice versa) in just 25 seconds with the touch of a button. Unlike any other convertible, the Eos features a fully functional sunroof with shade, allowing an open-air experience when the convertible top is up. A wind deflector has been cleverly integrated into the roof bow above the sun visors that effectively reduces wind noise when the top is stowed. And as temperatures rise and fall, the Eos is ready to respond with its dual-mode automatic climate control system that adjusts temperature based on the position of the convertible top. All of these make Eos a great alternative for all-season fun.

Also new on the Eos is the Keyless Entry and Start System, which allows the owner to get in and start up their Eos without getting out their key. Music lovers will enjoy the addition of HD Radio reception alongside SIRIUS satellite radio programming and MP3/WMA music file playback through the color touchscreen radio.

Safety

The 2012 Eos includes several features designed to enhance driver and passenger safety, including roll bars that are integrated into the seats and sensor-deployed in the event of a roll-over. Standard fog lamps now feature integrated cornering lights to heighten safety on all models.

Roadside Assistance and Warranty

The 2012 Eos comes standard with 24-hour Roadside Assistance for three years or 36,000 miles (whichever occurs first), through a third party provider. The vehicle’s standard limited warranties are:

Additionally, the Eos uses synthetic oil, which when combined with the state-of-the-art German engineering, eliminates the need for a 5,000 mile oil change. This allows Volkswagen owners to drive farther between scheduled oil changes.

Volkswagen’s roadster concept car, the BlueSport, should be making it’s debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show, according to sources at Autocar. It should be set to arrive in showrooms in early 2014.

The BlueSport, which we first saw at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show, is a 2 seat roadster with a canvas roof. The mid-engine rear-wheel drive car will weigh less than 2,600 pounds and will be powered by a 1.6 liter FSI turbocharged engine producing 220 horsepower. It will be fitted with either a manual 6-speed or a dual-clutch transmission with 7 speeds. It is believed that the BlueSport will be priced around $30,000.
