VW announced last week on their blog that they are officially going to sell the Golf R in the United States. The Golf R will have 50 more horsepower than the 2.0 L TSI. Its’ turbocharged 2.0 liter inline-four, mated with a manual 6-speed transmission, will get you from 0 to 60 in faster than ever. This is also thanks in part to the 4th generation Haldex 4MOTION All-Wheel-Drive system. All of this power exits the car through 2, centered rear exhaust pipes. Of course, it will get you from 60 back to 0 faster than any previous Golf models, as well. Volkswagen increased the rotor diameter on the new Golf R to improve braking distance. An upgraded sport tuned suspension makes the Golf R handle like a dream.

Available in 2 or 4-door models, the Golf R will be fitted with a number of model-specific parts. On the outside there will be, of course, the R badge and body kit as well as special 18 inch alloy wheels. On the inside drivers will be pleased with the custom R steering wheel, shift nob, door sills, and signature upholstery. The Golf R will also come with leather seating surfaces and dual-zone Climatronic air conditioning standard.

The wait is almost over – VW fans, it’s time to break out the champagne!

HERNDON, Va., November 16, 2010 – For the first time, Volkswagen of America, Inc. will unveil its all-new 2012 Eos hardtop convertible, at the Los Angeles Auto Show, with market  introduction in early spring of 2011. Featuring an updated design with numerous new features, the 2012 Eos is the perfect complement of style and performance. A convertible that boasts  the versatility of a sophisticated four-season vehicle the Eos is a fun-to-drive, fully featured, premium convertible. The German engineered Eos is the only hardtop convertible with a built-in sunroof.

Exterior

Clearly structured and horizontally contoured, the freshened appearance of the new Eos, available in new exterior color options, follows the code of the Volkswagen design DNA. Extending  now between the new headlights is a grille consisting of three shiny black louvers, each trimmed with a narrow chrome strip. With sporty handling and independent suspension, from  behind, the Eos stands out through its reworked, twopart LED rear lights with a fiber optic technology system and redesigned rear bumper with diffuser.

Interior

The refined interior, available in several color options, showcases new trim on the instrument panel and doors with standard “Matte Chrome” detailing, as well as chromeframed window  buttons and light switches. On higher trim lines, genuine walnut wood adds elegance to the instrument and door panels, and is accompanied by supple “Vienna” leather seating. All Eos are equipped with leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel and shift knob.

Engine and Transmission

Providing a dynamic driving experience, the 2012 Eos features the powerful and efficient German engineering that drivers have come to expect from Volkswagen. The Eos utilizes the acclaimed 2.0-liter 16-valve DOHC turbocharged and intercooled four-cylinder gasoline engine. The direct injected power plant produces 200 horsepower and develops 207 lbs-ft. of torque  while delivering a top highway fuel economy of 31 mpg highway.

For 2012, the Eos features the automatic Direct-Shift Gearbox® transmission as standard. This technologically advanced sixspeed transmission incorporates an automatic dual-clutch system that instantly engages and disengages gears without the need for a clutch pedal. With a special computer controlling the process, one clutch is engaged on the next gear needed while the clutch from the previous gear is released. The results are crisp, quick shifts without the loss of power that is experienced with a traditional manual gearbox.

High-Tech Features

In technical terms, numerous contemporary details set the 2012 Eos apart. With a robust five-part roof unit, the fully opening hardtop converts the Eos from coupe to convertible (and vice versa) in just 25 seconds with the touch of a button. Unlike any other convertible, the Eos features a fully functional sunroof with shade, allowing an open-air experience when the convertible top is up. A wind deflector has been cleverly integrated into the roof bow above the sun visors that effectively reduces wind noise when the top is stowed. And as temperatures rise and fall, the Eos is ready to respond with its dual-mode automatic climate control system that adjusts temperature based on the position of the convertible top. All of these make Eos a great alternative for all-season fun.

Also new on the Eos is the Keyless Entry and Start System, which allows the owner to get in and start up their Eos without getting out their key. Music lovers will enjoy the addition of HD Radio reception alongside SIRIUS satellite radio programming and MP3/WMA music file playback through the color touchscreen radio.

Safety

The 2012 Eos includes several features designed to enhance driver and passenger safety, including roll bars that are integrated into the seats and sensor-deployed in the event of a roll-over. Standard fog lamps now feature integrated cornering lights to heighten safety on all models.

Roadside Assistance and Warranty

The 2012 Eos comes standard with 24-hour Roadside Assistance for three years or 36,000 miles (whichever occurs first), through a third party provider. The vehicle’s standard limited warranties are:

• Five-year / 60,000 mile (whichever occurs first) Powertrain Limited Warranty

• Three-year / 36,000 mile (whichever occurs first) New Vehicle Limited Warranty

• 12-year unlimited distance Limited Warranty Against Corrosion Perforation

The Eos is covered by the no-charge Carefree Maintenance Program. Under this program, all of the scheduled maintenance, as described in the maintenance booklet, is covered for the length of the New Vehicle Warranty – three years or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Additionally, the Eos uses synthetic oil, which when combined with the state-of-the-art German engineering, eliminates the need for a 5,000 mile oil change. This allows Volkswagen owners to drive farther between scheduled oil changes.

Volkswagen’s roadster concept car, the BlueSport, should be making it’s debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show, according to sources at Autocar. It should be set to arrive in showrooms in early 2014.

The BlueSport, which we first saw at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show, is a 2 seat roadster with a canvas roof. The mid-engine rear-wheel drive car will weigh less than 2,600 pounds and will be powered by a 1.6 liter FSI turbocharged engine producing 220 horsepower. It will be fitted with either a manual 6-speed or a dual-clutch transmission with 7 speeds. It is believed that the BlueSport will be priced around $30,000.

Many of us were hoping to see Audi unveil a new S1 model at this year’s Paris Auto Show, however instead we were shown a new variant of the A1 with a 1.4 TFSI unit that produces 185 horsepower. While we were delighted to see this upgraded version of the A1, some wondered why they didn’t just give it the S1 badge. One reason for this was that it was lacking all wheel drive – something that is available on all of the S models.

Luckily, it looks like there will be an Audi S1 in the near future after all. According to AutoCar, Volkswagen is currently in the process of engineering its PQ25 platform for all-wheel drive, which would allow the proper underpinning for the S1, and possibly other future VW models as well (maybe a Polo R and Crosspolo?). All we know is we can’t wait to see what VW does with the new platform!

Last year the VW Golf was named the World Car of the Year and this year the trophy is staying in the family. Volkswagen received the honor for the second consecutive year as it was announced at the New York Auto Show that the Polo had topped all others.

The VW Polo, which is currently only sold in Europe, was picked above the 30 other entries, including the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Toyota Prius, the other 2 finalists for the award.

59 automotive jounalists from 25 different countries around the world all took part in the voting. They test drove each of the 30 cars between July 2009 and January 2010 before picking the Polo as the winner.

Volkswagen has said that the Polo will likely be available in the U.S. sometime this year.

Three of the car brands that Reeves Import Motorcars carries – Volkswagen, Subaru, and BMW – won awards from the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC). The Canadian International Auto Show was kicked off with the announcements of these awards as it does every year. The big prize, Automobile of the Year, went to the 2010 VW GTI.  The GTI beat out other models in styling, safety, value, merit and other factors to take home the award. The turbocharged hatchback is fuel efficient and has an upscale interior, along with several other features that set it apart.

The 2010 Subaru Outback was named the Utility Vehicle of the Year, honoring the redesigned model that has several improvements and a larger body than the old model. The Outback comes with standard all wheel drive (AWD) and comes with either a four or six cylinder engine. It also has great fuel economy, tons of safety features, and a flexible and roomy interior. The list of awards for the Outback keeps growing. The 2010 Subaru Outback was also named Motor Trend’s SUV of the Year and was given the highest possible safety rating by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

BMW’s new 335d Sedan was recognized as the best new design. This award is given out each year to the vehicle that best combines form and function. The 335d also has the recognition of being the most highly rated model in the luxury car segment and was the only diesel powered model in the category.

This week Volkswagen continued their push to be the dominant auto maker in terms of fuel efficiency, beginning with their unveiling of the all new VW Touareg and Touareg Hybrid. The Touareg, showed for the first time at this week’s Geneva International Motor Show, will come in gas, diesel, and hybrid versions. The hybrid version will be capable of about 25 miles of electric-only driving. Don’t let the “hybrid” sticker fool you, though. This thing will tow more than 3 tons of boat or trailer. All three models get even more improvement in fuel efficiency because of the equipped eight-speed transmission.

Aside from the release of the Touareg, Volkswagen also announced the planned arrival of its other hybrid models to the U.S. in the coming years. The 2013 VW Jetta Hybrid will come to the U.S. market in August of 2012, followed by the Passat Hybrid in August of 2013 and the Golf Hybrid in October of 2013.

VW will also begin consumer testing of all electric vehicles in the near future. 500 electric Golf hatchbacks will be tested next year in North America, Europe and China and the E-Up, VW’s electric mini car, will be launched by 2013.

When you want to see just how imaginative and inventive Volkswagen is all you have to do is look at the CC, a compact sedan which somehow looks strikingly like a coupe. With sweeping lines that stretch the length of the car and a roof that slopes back to the end of the trunk you’ll completely forget that you have the functionality of a sedan simply because it looks like a much sportier, sleeker coupe.

Starting at just over $27,000, the 2010 CC comes with a standard six-speed manual transmission along with a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 200 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque. Those numbers can be boosted to 280 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque by adding the optional 3.6 liter V6. Of course there is another option for the tranny as well: a six-speed automatic with manual Tiptronic. The standard engine model gets 21 miles per gallon in the city and 31 on the highway while the V6 gets 18/27.

The four-door sedan seats four instead of the usual five and has ergonomically designed seats that keep its passengers snug during lateral movement. This car is even leaning on the verge of luxury. VW has an entire lineup of 2010 models that are simply outstanding and the CC is no different.

The engineers over at VW just keep impressing the auto buffs. This time it’s not a new powerhouse Audi or Lamborghini, but an eco-friendly, technologically advanced concept car labeled the UP! Lite. The sleek 2-door Volkswagen uses a 2-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine along with electric motors, Start-Stop technology, regenerative braking, an advanced seven speed twin-clutch automatic gearbox, and an insanely low drag coeficcient of 0.237 to achieve 96.5 mpg. It is made of super-leightweight materials and weighs in at just 695kg. Considering the excellent fuel-efficiency of the UP! Lite it is also impressive that it can reach 60 mph in a respectable 12.5 seconds and has a top speed of 100 mph.

This aerodynamically superior concept could go into production by 2011 and has a ton of nice features to catch your eye. Instead of side mirrors the UP! Lite uses cameras. On the inside there is a central control display that is controlled by touch and hand movement sensors. It handles MP3, video, radio, active thermal management, passive parking ventilation, phone, trip-planner, and even internet.

In a year when the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety bumped up the testing to the most rigorous and scrutinizing safety tests ever, Subaru, Volkswagen, and Audi were among few car manufacturers to receive the highest safety ratings possible.

This year’s safety tests not only included front, side, and rear collission tests but also a rollover test. Subaru was the only car manufacturer to receive the top safety rating for every crash test in each of the vehicle categories in which it competed. The list of vehicles to receive the top safety rating was only 27 cars long this year, compared to 90 last year.

Subaru’s models to make the list are:

• Subaru Outback
• Subaru Legacy
• Subaru Impreza (except WRX)
• Subaru Tribeca
• Subaru Forester

Volkswagen’s cars to make the list were:

• Volkswagen Jetta sedan
• Volkswagen Passat sedan

• Volkswagen Tiguan

The Audi A3 also made the list, receiving the highest possible safety rating in all 4 crash tests.
