Audi will soon be introducing a new 4-door concept version of the A3 model. The notchback sedan will have 4 seats and a sporty, attractive design. It will feature a single-frame grille and new LED headlights that combine to give the front of this concept car a mean stare. Its’ low flowing roof and sporty deminsions (14.57 feet long, 6.04 feet wide, and 4.56 feet tall) make it look more like a coupe.

As far as performance goes, the A3 concept will have a 5-cylinder 300 kW, 408 horsepower turbocharged engine with quattro drive, delivering power evenly to all four wheels through a 7-speed S tronic transmission. In short, it’s a compact 4-seat powerhouse that can beat most cars off the line – that is if it doesn’t scare them away with its’ aggressive looks first.

The technology we’ll be finding in our new cars over the next few years will undoubtedly provide lots of excitement, especially if that new car is an Audi. Speaking at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2011), Audi Chairman Rupert Stadler shared his visions of 3D graphic displays and a more connected, more mobile car of the future with a packed crowd. The future of driving will be a more entertaining and engaging experience that will also help keep the driver attentive on the road. Audi calls it the driver’s infotainment experience.

One of the most intriguing next-gen features that Audi has been developing in partnership with Elektrobit Automotive and NVIDIA is a crystal-clear and vivid 3D heads-up display (HUD) which superimposes turn-by-turn arrows on upcoming streets. In addition, the HUDs will display all of the vehicle’s vitals and gauges. “We found that if things are presented more realistically, they require less driver attention and limit driver distraction,” Stadler announced.

According to NVIDIA’s founder and CEO Jenson Huang, who was also on hand at the CES, Tegra 2 (the system that currently powers the Audi A8′s MMI) is already powerful enough to create “virtual cockpits”, cockpits with fully digital displays and instruments.

“We can simulate any material,” Huang told the crowd. “We can simulate metal. We can simulate aluminum or wood. But in this particular one (he points to a projected image) we’re simulating glass. And you can notice all the various reflections, refractions, shadows and lighting.”

Stadler closed out the presentation with a prediction that seems more and more realistic as every day passes. “Ultimately we see a world where the car is fully connected to the world of the internet, to other cars, as well as to traffic and other data streams. The car of the future is part of the mobile world, in every sense of that word.”

Many of us were hoping to see Audi unveil a new S1 model at this year’s Paris Auto Show, however instead we were shown a new variant of the A1 with a 1.4 TFSI unit that produces 185 horsepower. While we were delighted to see this upgraded version of the A1, some wondered why they didn’t just give it the S1 badge. One reason for this was that it was lacking all wheel drive – something that is available on all of the S models.

Luckily, it looks like there will be an Audi S1 in the near future after all. According to AutoCar, Volkswagen is currently in the process of engineering its PQ25 platform for all-wheel drive, which would allow the proper underpinning for the S1, and possibly other future VW models as well (maybe a Polo R and Crosspolo?). All we know is we can’t wait to see what VW does with the new platform!

Audi was the winner of two Motorist Choice Awards this year, while BMW and Porsche also brought home one award each. Motorist Choice Awards are the only annual automotive awards that are decided on by active consumers. The awards are split into 15 unique buyer categories in both Popular and Premium segments. Total cost of ownership, fuel economy, and resale value are just a few of the things considered by active consumers to choose winners for each category and segment.

The Audi A5 was chosen as the winner of the Premium segment of the Sexy Styling category. The sleek coupe’s sexy interior styling, 8 speed Tiptronic transmission, and excellent road performance made it an easy choice for consumers. The A6, with its comfortable interior and powerful engine, won in the Premium segment of the Country Club category.

BMW’s 5-Series took home the trophy in the Premium segment of the Fun to Drive category, while the Porsche Cayenne was the winner of the Premium segment of the Active Lifestyle category.

The designers and engineers at Audi have come up with yet another sleek and sexy vehicle to tempt auto enthusiasts. Audi Chairman Rupert Stadler introduced the manufacturer’s new 2011 Audi A7 Sportback in Munich, beautifully designed with long curved lines, a low profile, and a tapered rear which Audi says resembles Italian cars of the 1960′s, but could easily be compared to that of the Porsche Panamera.

The A7 Sportback has a lightweight body with many aluminum components. Audi’s Quattro permanent all-wheel drive system will be standard on the car in the United States. A 7 speed automatic transmission and adaptive air suspension (which can be set for sportyness or for comfort) are some of the other high-tech mechanical features the new Audi model has. A new electromechanical steering system helps the Audi save fuel by not needing to rely on an engine-driven pump for power assist, and also works hand-in-hand with the active lane-assist system.

Under the hood Americans will get a powerful supercharged 3 liter V6, while in Europe 3 different V6 options will be available as well as two TDI diesel engines.

On the inside, the A7 Sportback has a wide variety of standard and optional features including a Multimedia interface system with an 8 inch touch display to control audio, telephone, and other components. The front seats have air ventilation and massage, and the entire cabin is nicely decorated with layered wood inlays. A Bang & Olufsen sound system and internet service make the A7 even more irresistible.

The Audi A7 Sportback will be available in the United States sometime in 2011.

As for the specs, the Audi R4 is expected to weigh no more than 2,500 pounds and will have either a 1.4 liter TSI engine that produces 180 horsepower or a 2.0 liter inline-four, similar to the one in the Audi TT, that produces 170 horsepower.

Of course, all of this is still just speculation (thanks TopSpeed), but if it comes true then the market for entry-level sports cars will be in for quite an overhaul. An Audi sports car based on the E-Tron for under $30k is just what we’ve been waiting for.

Audi plans on reintroducing the A2 to the market sometime in 2013, but this time around the minicompact model will have some different characteristics. Instead of an aluminum frame the new A2 will be made of steel. In the original model the high-tech, lightweight aluminum kept Audi from aggressively pricing the car, but the steel frame should allow the make to offer the vehicle at a more affordable price while still keeping it’s luxury appeal and amenities.

Also on the slate for the rebirth is a high-efficiency 3 cylinder engine. It is expected to launch as a battery-powered e-tron and will likely have a zero-emission version available as well.

“With this car, Audi will offer a highly efficient solution to the mobility requirements of the modern metropolis,” promises Audi chairman Rupert Stadler.

Every time we turn our heads Audi is adding newer, more sophisticated technologies to their cars. This time Audi announced that select A8 models this year will come equipped with a new Mobile Media Interface Plus in-car computer system. The non-Plus MMI is already available in A5 models but the new system will feature a 3G wireless connection (just like your cell phone). The 3G connection from Qualcomm will allow drivers to make phone calls and use the data network simultaneously. Audi’s MMI Plus will also feature Google Earth. With Google Earth integrated into the A8′s navigation system drivers will be able to get detailed online and offline content, route planning, points-of-interest, and real-time traffic updates.

Audi is part of a very small crowd in that they have successfully designed a beautiful and functional performance convertible. While many car enthusiasts turn the other cheek at convertibles, this one demands attention. It has looks that dazzle, performs like a sports car, and feels like a luxury car. The 2010 Audi A5 Cabriolet features a 2.0 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that has the jump you want and the fuel efficiency you need, getting around 30 miles per gallon. Audi’s electric vehicle concept, the e-tron, made its North American debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week and boy did it make a great first impression. Jaws dropped as the stunning EV was unvieled. The e-tron boasts 313 horsepower and 3,319 foot-pounds of torque coming from four motors. Two motors on each axle are powered by a 42.4 kilowatt-hour liquid-cooled litium ion battery. The battery is said to last up to 154 miles before having to be recharged. The e-tron should see limited producion by the end of 2012.

The interior of the Audi e-tron is first-class all the way as brushed aluminum and rich leather line pretty much everything. Also, side cameras are used instead of side view mirrors.

Audi is also working on other electric vehicles and could have a few in production by 2013.
