BMW Confirms Plans for M Version of 1-Series

Soon car enthusiasts will be able to own a BMW M with a lot less impact on their wallets. BMW M Division boss Kay Segler recently confirmed to AutoCar that the company plans on releasing an M version of the 1-Series, one of BMW’s most affordable lines. Segler said that BMW wants to make performance cars that people dream about and can still afford.
Another BMW official stated that the production of an M version was approved after an “overwhelmingly positive reaction” to recent customer clinics.
The new model, which will likely begin hitting showroom floors sometime in 2011, will be powered by a modified version of BMW’s new 3.0 liter turbocharged straight 6-cylinder engine. It will produce somewhere around 350 horsepower, about 50 more than the 135i and about 70 less than the M3, which has a 4.0L V8.
Now that’s something to be excited for!
